Tallinn Old Town Days Small Projects Competition 2024

42. Tallinn Old Town Days will take place from 7 to 9 June 2024

During the Tallinn Old Town Days, we will look at the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town of Tallinn as a creative conservation area. And at the same time, we reflect on what the culturally rich old town is like, what are the old town's existing and new, yet to be created values, with which to move forward from 2024.

Traditional as well as innovative cultural initiatives related to the following sub-themes are welcome to apply for the competition:

CULTURAL OLD TOWN

The task of culture is to broaden a person's worldview, being both a mirror of society and a vision of the future. Culture is a conceptual, but perceptible and living space that unites and carries the nation with its customs and manners through time. The old town with its medieval milieu is an important part of the capital's cultural heritage. It consists of architecture, music, art, dance, theater and more. Also museums and churches that create the cultural fabric of the old town on a daily basis. How can we bring even more culture to the old town and ensure its sustainable survival in the old town tomorrow?

INTERNATIONAL OLD TOWN

Every nation that has come into contact with Estonians has brought its own traditions, languages, beliefs, national food and creations, the most valuable of which we have preserved and integrated into the existing cultural space. This process continues. By playing with different languages and sounds, colors and forms, methods and methodologies, materials and techniques, completely new possibilities are born that one could not even wish for or imagine.

THE OLD CITY OF ALL OF US

Openness and accessibility are an important part of modern urban space. One of the goals of the Old Town Days is to inspire different people to spend time in the Old Town and find happy and enriching places and activities. The more people get into the habit of visiting the old town, the more versatile the offer in the old town becomes over time.
