The Open Houses tour of the Estonian Museum of Architecture (EST)

3. June @ 16:00 - 18:00

For free. Preregistration here.

At the first glance, one could hardly expect to see new architecture in the medieval Tallinn Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nevertheless, there are numerous remarkable new buildings that have found their place in this unique environment within the last decades. One can either love them or hate them, but cannot deny they are unique and interesting. The Estonian Museum of Architecture launched the tour series Open Houses with the aim to increase the awareness about architecture and space and take those interested in urban space to well-known places and buildings where one rarely finds themselves on an ordinary day or where the entrance is usually prohibited for safety reasons. Even though the museum mainly focuses on the architecture of the 20th and 21st century, it is during the celebration of the medieval Old Town that we get the best opportunity to introduce the creation of modern space through contemporary architecture. The tours offer the participants not only an opportunity to get to know what is inside these noted buildings and who work there but also a glimpse of just how diverse is the life that goes on behind these familiar façades. The objects chosen for visits are special buildings that have an important role to play in the city. On the photo: De La Gardie department store (Viru 13/15). Participation in a tour group based on registration, max 30 persons per group, the tours are for free for the participants
