The Old Town Days, which ended yesterday, brought thousands of people to the Old Town.

The 43rd edition ended last night. The Tallinn Old Town Days brought thousands of people to the Old Town over the weekend to take part in tours, family days and performances and concerts. Sibyl Vane, who celebrated her 15th birthday on the main stage this year, gave the closing concert.

According to Kaarel Oja, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, the 43. Tallinn Old Town Days brought thousands of people from near and far to the historic walls and streets. "Given the size of the audience, I dare say that almost everyone found something new and exciting in the programme," he said. "Just as we strive to make sure that the Old Town itself lives and thrives and is the best place for us to be right here, right now, so it is with Old Town Days. A big thank you to all the museums, churches, societies and institutions that contributed to the festival, as well as to the residents and volunteers of the Old Town, without whose support such a great event could not be organised," the Deputy Mayor added.

On the last day of the festival, there was plenty to do in the Old Town, especially for families. The children and youth area LAHELA hosted workshops and children's and youth concerts and dance performances, while Fred-Erik Johanson's magic show "Illusion" proved to be a particular favourite with the audience. There was also a mini-fair for the younger grades, with student companies showcasing their products on Harju Street. A family day was held in Paksus Margareeta, and in the Suurgild building you could take part in archaeological excavations and play yard games.

In Town Hall Square, the younger members of the family were treated to puppet shows inspired by the Book Year. Eight young wordsmiths took to the stage at the Old Town Poetry Festival, and were later judged by the audience. The Museum of Forbidden Literature, on the other hand, showcased books on sale.

On the square of the towers in Pärimusküla you could try your hand at handicrafts, watch folk dance groups perform and even dance yourself. The open studios day at the jewellery artists' house at Hobusepea 2 gave visitors the chance to learn more about the fascinating house. The final event of the Tallinn Old Town Days was Jaak Juske's audience-packed ghost story tour.

43. Tallinn Old Town Days were organised by the Tallinn Department of Culture and Sports.
