Tallinn Old Town Days small projects competition 2025

Support measure is aimed at supporting public cultural events in Tallinn's Old Town on 6-8 June 2025. The call for applications is open to cultural initiatives that are in line with the objectives and sub-themes of the Old Town Days:

  • (re)discover the Old Town and enjoy its rich heritage;
  • encourage active participation in shaping urban life;
  • support the local community;
  • encourage new ideas, exchanges and experiences.

Sub-topics:

  1. Year of the Estonian book
    In 2025, it will be 500 years since the publication of the first book in Estonian. This will mark the big birthday of the Estonian book and the Estonian written language. One of the aims of this year is to make literature an integral part of the atmosphere of the Old Town, offering new meanings through the word and connecting visitors with deep layers of Estonian culture and history.
    Keywords: (children's) literature, song, (favourite) book, reading diary, reading, poetry, fairy tale, dialect literature, riddle, memory game.
  2. "From foundation to wind chime"
    The aim is to help visitors discover the hidden layers of the Old Town and look beyond the visible surface and the conventional architecture. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Old Town's enclosed spaces, such as the basements of buildings, historic towers and fortifications, and hidden courtyards that are normally inaccessible.

  3. "The Old Town for all"
    The role of the Old Town will be emphasised not only in terms of history and culture, but also as a modern urban space that is open and accessible to all. Here, everyone can find an activity, a recreation area or a source of inspiration. The Old Town offers a wide range of opportunities and encourages community gathering and active use of urban space.
    Keywords: pet, community, meeting place, courtyard and garden, urban space, sport.

The maximum grant per project is €5,000.

Who can apply?
Support will be granted to legal entities under the following conditions:

  • the project builds on the objectives and sub-themes of the Old Town Days;
  • the project provides substantial novelty and/or added value to the Old Town Days;
  • the project is located in the Old Town of Tallinn and/or in a green area adjacent to the city walls;
  • the project activities in the application are well thought out and clearly described;
  • the budget of the application is in line with the action plan of the event, broken down by cost line;
  • the project will be managed in accordance with environmental principles;

Expenditure eligible for a grant:

  • staff costs related to the management of the project (e.g. salaries of the project manager and accountant);
  • the fees of those carrying out the project activities (e.g. artist, supervisor, director, performer and actor);
  • room hire (for the preparation and duration of the event) and hire of the equipment needed to carry out the project;
  • transport and accommodation costs;
  • the costs necessary to ensure accessibility (excluding investment in technical solutions, etc.);
  • other reasonable costs necessary for the preparation and implementation of the event.

14 March (for operations from 1 April 2025)
You can apply to the City of Tallinn in the self-service environmenton the project grant form, in the field "Old Town Days".

The Commission reserves the right to propose to the authors to include the project in the programme of the Old Town Days with a partial grant or to organise it with full self-financing.

The Commission reserves the right to ask for further information on the project.

We will also assess the environmentally sound management and accessibility of projects. Accessibility means the inclusion of the whole population in the living and information environment, so that all people, regardless of their age or state of health, have equal opportunities to participate in society.
