During this year's Kreek Days, we celebrate Cyrillus Kreek's 135th birthday with three concerts: in Haapsalu, Kreek's hometown, which will be 745 years old this year, as well as in Laulasmaa and Tallinn. The artistic director of the ensemble Vox Clamantis, Jaan-Eik Tulve, has chosen his generational colleague Mart Saar next to Kreek. The life paths of both great figures of Estonian music have followed a similar path: they are graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatory and as professors of the Tallinn Conservatory have contributed to the shaping of the Estonian music scene, the central choral compositions of both have been boosted by Estonian folk tunes, which they themselves have helped to collect. Listening to the works of Kreek and Saar gives an idea of the points of contact and differences between the two creative natures.
