During the Old Town Days, you can also test yourself with the Estonian Museum of Natural History at the Nature Watching Marathon, which will take place this year on 7. June. The Estonian Museum of Natural History's public observation area is Toompark.

Bats are mysterious and important nocturnal creatures in our ecosystem, and their ways of life are full of fascinating secrets. We will start the tour by learning about the habits and adaptations of these special animals, and look at the topiaries of different bat species to understand their anatomy and characteristics.

We then head to the Old Town's limestone walls and Snell Park, where we look for signs of bats. Bats prefer to roost in old walls and parks, where insects are abundant. During the tour, we'll talk about how to spot these animals and why they are so important in urban life.

When conditions are right, there is the chance to see bats in action and to listen to them with a special detector - opening up a window to a world that the human eye and ear cannot otherwise perceive. It's a rare chance to plunge into the mysteries of twilight and experience city life from a whole new angle!

Supervised by Katerina Pesotski, biologist at the Estonian Museum of Natural History.
